To add some supportin...Great breakdown here, Jenn.

To add some supporting color to your thoughts, from our experience at Webtrends Facebook traffic converts on average 2 to 5 times higher (sometimes much more) when the conversion takes place *inside* Facebook on their apps. It's a misnomer to think about Facebook as a source for referral traffic. Facebook is a destination site and the users don't want to be lured away.

As you indicated in your post, Twitter is a different story. People check out links shared on Twitter expecting to be taken to another site. But, most of that traffic is flighty traffic with high bounce rates. Good for people serving ads though!

SEO value from social comes the strongest from blogs, forums, and wikis. These are social media formats that you own and exist on your domains and are great resources for earning search traffic, which converts really well on domains you own.Justin Kistnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17900703720236977953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3330771333859212739.post-51046547772226125082009-05-12T11:02:00.000-07:002009-05-12T11:02:00.000-07:00Nice. I came from Rand's article.
Social media, ...Nice. I came from Rand's article.

Social media, at the moment, is definitely a long-term commitment. The ROI tracking is still hard though, which is why I think it will grow in fits and starts. I'm actually a little scared about what a mature social market economy will look like, but everything evolves and I'm sure it will be as normal as radio stations doing giveaways to listeners.

Also, double plus points for pointing out forums are social media. spot on. ;)Ted Rheingoldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17565771063652962704noreply@blogger.com
